The UK population now comprises more people over the age of 60 than under the age of 18, for the first time ever; what is the church saying about old age, both positively and negatively?
How can we as Christians serve older people through the provision of good spiritual care, whilst combatting ageism and exclusion, and honouring the contribution of older people in our churches and communities?

The Anna Chaplaincy is an important ministry initiative providing vital support to the elderly, helping alleviate loneliness and promoting spiritual well-being.
Anna Chaplains and their teams offer spiritual care in later life and are appointed by local churches, serving in different contexts across the UK. This ecumenical, community-based chaplaincy is enabled by BRF Ministries, offering a highly relational, supportive structure of training, networking and resources that aims to develop best practice in this sensitive ministry.

In this Deanery Briefing .....
In this Deanery Briefing Anna Chaplaincy’s national Ministry Lead, Debbie Ducille, facilitated a conversation about our attitudes to ageing, offerd a presentation about Anna Chaplaincy as a compassionate, flexible ministry model, and left room to discuss what practical, contextual responses might look like.
I live 145 miles from my sister and when she started showing signs of dementia, I am so grateful that through the church network the Anna Chaplaincy team based at her church stepped up to support her. They were able to help when I couldn’t.
A grateful sister
The Growth and spread of the Anna Chaplaincy .....
A ministry of compassion and non-judgemental presence, Anna Chaplaincy is growing rapidly as a national movement in a variety of places where older people might gather, offering a creative pastoral response to some of the challenges of ageing and social isolation experienced, and as a trusted voice nationally.
